How Emotions Rule: Leadership Concepts in Inside Out 1. Movie Summary Leadership can take form in a vast number of ways, from businesses to government to public speakers. Leadership can be found in nearly every species around the planet in some form. But what if you looked deeper into yourself to explore what governs you as a person? The movie Inside Out does just that, by characterizing the things that drive us from the moment we are born until the moment we die: emotions. This story follows an 11-year old girl named Riley and the 5 basic emotions that live inside her head and govern what she does: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. Critique the Leadership Among all of the emotions, the one which exhibits the most leadership qualities is Joy. Going by the Big Five Personality Traits, Joy excels at the expectations of nearly of the traits. The first, being surgency, is completely natural to her character. Being the physical representation of joy itself, she is constantly energetic, extroverted and makes conversation whenever possible, even with Sadness, whom she does not like initially. When she is trying to raise Sadness’s sprits to continue on and make their way back to headquarters, she makes Sadness think happy thoughts, which to Sadness include â€Å"[a] good movie where [a] dog died.† The second trait is conscientiousness, which Joy shows not through her teamwork with the other emotions, but through the dependability she has for Riley. Having been with her from the moment of her birth, Joy is committed to always see Riley happy, thus she never leaves her post at the control board until she and Sadness are taken away; and even then, Joy spends every moment looking for a way back to Riley. The third trait is agreeableness, which matches her personality perfectly. Everything Joy does or talks about is heavily optimistic. Despite everything that goes wrong about the move, including the dreams versus the reality of what the new house would look like, the moving van not arriving on time, and not being able to find a good place to eat, Joy remains
